Are   Kallianpur-Santhekatte citizens inviting Maleria and Dengue?

Swach Bharat Andolan is the slogan of the day. From Prime Minister to school children all are concerned about swach Bharat. But what is the respose of highly enlightend and educated   citizens of Santhekatte- Kallianpur? This area is the hub of Educational institutions from Kg to P G. People are educated and financially sound. NSS, NCC, Scouts and Guides, Rotary and Lion organization celebrate and take part in the Swach Bharat Andolan. From Last year Catholic Sabha too is joining this movement. On July first  this year there is Swachata   Andolan in every parish.  In this region we have people patriotic and some section claim  more patriotic. But what is the current situation?

Santhekatte is the very important junction where more than 10 thousands people cross everyday.   When you come from Kallianpur, Kemmannu , Brahmavar or Udupi  there is one tree welcoming  you which is decorated with Beer, whisky bottles and plastic garbage.  Just move to Kallianpur side there is another tree in front of Mt Rosary complex where every day whisky bottles, water bottles, tube lights  and plastic is dumped and  half burnt.  In this process two trees are already died and one more counting its days.  From where whisky bottles are dumped here? There are no Bars nearby?  The police and health department should enquire about this.  Muncipality is collecting garbage systematically everyday. Why some arrangement is not  made to collect the garbage?  By burning plastic, it is known fact that it emits dangerous gases. Small children are more  effected by this and  there is a school nearby. Why School management is silent?

From Goretti Hospital to Suvarna river, the drainage of the road, is dust bin to the citizens  specially for  shop oweners  and   business people.   Plasic bottles, plastic,  whisky bottles are dumped in this and it ultimately reach the  river during rainy season. Because of garbage in the drainage, water is blocked and flows on the road and roads are damaged for the first rain.  Now it is difficult walk on the road.  Some dump plastic and garbage  in the drainage and burn.   Harmful gases destroy the good health of the people specially the children of nearby schools and  half burnt garbage is left behind in the drainage.

 Another speciality of our citizen is  bushes and trees near the road are  used to dump the garbage. The best example  is the junction Kallainpur –Pakkibettu to highway  leading to Baba Soda factory. Another example is near the bar and infront of old Canara Bank.

 Kallianpur Panchayat and Udupi Taluk  are award winners at National levlel for cleanliness. Then what is the cleanliness level of our Nation?

What should be done?

1.  Munciplaity is doing its best to collect the garbage. Citizens should co operate with the muncipality. Panchayat also do some planning for the disposal of waste. 

2.  All the waste which  decays can be used as organic manure for plants and coconut trees or we can prepare our own manure.

3.   Minimise the use of  plastic and use cloth bags.

4.  The owners of the complexes and shops have the responsibility for the disposal of the waste and garbage.  The Distric  and Muncipality  health department should take serious action on erring shops and institutions. 

5.  Swach Bharat Andolan should start from home and schools. Swach Bharat Andolan or cleanliness programme should not be  for sake of reporting to get awards but   it must be our culture.

Let us keep clean Kallianpur and Santhekatte. This will be the first step for Swach Bharat.
